A scorecard will take both into account. You have to break it down to which of the 5Ps you're talking about.  And then define "public"; business generally contributes to wealth and supercylces (see the video at http://www.managing-creativity.com ), so it gets complicated.

Good question! These two (public good and profit) are not mutually exclusive. However, in order for innovation to sustain itself -- the very nature of profit requires an innovative rejuvenation. Now there is a segue for a wonderfully innovation management initiative! Ellen

The "Purpose" of benefiting the "Public" must transcend and include the "Private Profit" objective.

 

This is how we could move from "Capitalism" to "Volitionalism" It is up to the willingness of capital founders to put "Purpose/Profit". It is a consciousness/willingness issue.
